Vision

Promote fun, enjoyment, physical & mental activity and fellowship in the Saskatchewan square dancing, round dancing, clogging, line dancing, country dancing, western dancing and contra dancing community. 

Mission

Saskatchewan Square & Round Dance Federation Inc. promotes the advancement of Square & Round dancing and Clogging in Saskatchewan communities. We work with provincial dance clubs to provide equal opportunity to people of all ages and in all walks of life to enjoy this recreational activity, thereby enhancing the health and well-being of all participants, physically and mentally.

Strategic Plan

EFFECTIVE June 22, 2023

1. Objective: Club Capacity Building

Area: Increase/ Maintain Member Club Capacity 

1.1 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain club membership. 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Improved communication to public; local advertising by clubs, easier access, and benefits of dancing on our SSRDF website or local social media platforms (Facebook)
  • Providing beginner lessons in all zones/clubs throughout the province.
  • Offer shorter beginner class program ie. SSD program for square dancing.
  • Utilizing technology such as lessons via Zoom (where practical) for those that this would be beneficial.
  • Utilize technology (Zoom) to access callers/cuers/instructors, where these people are not available.
  • Providing quality programs that meet international standards. (Caller Lab, Round-a-Lab)
  • Lower financial barriers by providing funding for beginner lessons (beginner grants)
  • Providing accessible instruction material for all dancers (CDs, website links, etc.)
  • Access to callers/cuers/instructors
  • Tailored Programs – offer programs that are best suited to the club membership, ie. Slow down the tempo or difficulty level for aging membership.
  • Sharing clubs’ best practices (at executive, AGMs as well as at local zone meetings) 
  • Advertising (Media advertising (newspaper, magazine television, radio), Direct mail, word of mouth or fixed signage, digital marketing such as social media, email marketing)
  • Information meetings 

Indicators/Measurements:

  • Number of members 
  • Number of beginner classes with attendees
  • Number of new beginners
  • Number and type of programs offered (SSD, MS, Plus, beginner, intermediate, etc.)
  • Number of new beginners retained and joining clubs

Responsibility: 

  • SSRDF helps with the funding through the SK Lottery Trust Fund Grant.
  • Clubs & Zones advertise in local newspapers, posters, word of mouth, websites and social media, etc. of lessons offered.
  • Members recruit new dancers 

1.2 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain knowledge among volunteers within the clubs 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Encourage mentorship (between individuals and clubs)
  • Information sharing (grant opportunities)
  • Publish Directory
  • Special Events/Workshops
  • Communication via website or social media of local events, training links and other provincial and national events
  • Ensure zone reps understand their duties, ie. Communicate to zones/clubs

Indicators/Measurements:

  • Awareness of club events and SSRDF information as shared on our website. 

Responsibility: 

  • Club executives and all members
  • SSRDF Inc. share information at Executive & Annual General Meeting and on the website

1.3 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain access to SSRDF. 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Publish Directory
  • Maintain accurate Website information
  • Promote Advertising 
  • Ensure zone reps understand their duties, ie. Communicate with zones/clubs

Indicators/Measurements:

  • Number of Directories distributed
  • Number of web hits
  • Attendance at executive and AGM meetings
  • Awareness of club events and SSRDF information as shared on our website. 

Responsibility: 

  • All clubs have zone representation.
  • Each zone has four people to represent their zone on the Board of Directors.

2. Objective: Leadership

Area: Increase Leadership Opportunities 

2.1 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain the number of instructors. 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Provide funding initiatives for individuals 
  • Promote awareness of opportunities 
  • Maintain database of current instructors, as well as type and level of instruction.
  • Information sharing between clubs 
  • Clubs encourage “new instructor” events, ie. all callers dance.
  • Sharing best practices between clubs
  • Provide mentorship, ie. Partner experience with new instructors.
  • Sponsoring a local (Saskatchewan based) instructor school(s).
  • Sponsoring “mini” workshops for instructors. (practice/tips)

Indicators/Measurements: 

  • Number of grants for individuals
  • Number of training opportunities
  • Number of instructors 
  • Number of new instructors
  • Number of mentorship programs

Responsibility: 

  • SSRDF – Instructors list in Directory and website
  • Experienced leaders providing mentorship
  • Clubs – provide an  opportunities for people to try instructing.
  • Members participate and encourage each other. 

2.2 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain the quality of instructors .

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Exchange program, (mentorship) 
  • Caller/cuer/instructor meeting
  • Sharing best practices between clubs
  • Provide mentorship, ie. Partner experience with new instructors
  • Sponsoring a local (Saskatchewan based) instructor school(s)
  • Sponsoring “mini” workshops for instructors (practice/tips)

  • Feedback from dancers
  • Caller/cuer/instructor demand 

Responsibility: 

  • Clubs give opportunities to new instructors to gain experience
  • Members encourage instructors

2.3 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain workshop opportunities. 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Provide access to workshop and individual information
  • Provide funding initiatives for individuals
  • Encourage mentorship programs
  • Sponsoring local (Saskatchewan based) instructor school(s)
  • Sponsoring “mini” workshops for instructors (practice/tips)
  • provide funding (grants) for workshops

  • SSRDF provides funding for instructional workshops
  • Zones and Clubs support workshops

3. Objective: Communication

Area: Increase Communication Opportunities 

3.1 Strategic Outcome: To increase members’ awareness of event opportunities. 

Tasks/Activities: 

  • Update and maintain Website (events calendar)
  • Publish Directory with events
  • Exchange event information at AGM and executive meetings
  • Provide forum for Zone newsletter exchange
  • Encourage clubs to post events on websites and directories
  • Standardize zone reporting requirements
  • Promote informational  newsletters withing zones.
  • Provide event advertising at no cost. 

Indicators/Measurements: 

  • Number of participants at events 
  • Number of events advertised on website

Responsibility: 

  • Board of Directors are responsible for the website, directory, and Annual General Meeting
  • Zones exchange their newsletters
  • Clubs/Zones distribute posters, registration forms, etc. to inform of upcoming events
  • Clubs announce their dances and upcoming events
  • Leaders provide advertising materials for events at their dances.

3.2 Strategic Outcome: To increase public awareness of SSRDF (Square, Round Dancing Clogging and Line Dancing). 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Improved website design (improved navigation for public and relevant links)
  • Local club advertising (community papers, Facebook, website, etc)
  • Local clubs participate in Demos to public or partner at community events.
  • Clubs advertise and offer beginner classes (introductory or complimentary events)
  • General advertising (TV, Radio, magazines, community newsletters, word of mouth, etc.)
  • Support and/or participate in local wellness expos/conferences.
  • Support and/or volunteer for local charities while displaying group identity. (ie Salvation army bell ringing)

Indicators/Measurements: 

  • Number of new members in the local clubs
  • Number of new demands on existing programs
  • Number of new inquiries from public
  • Website hits

Responsibility: 

  • Board of Directors are responsible for the website, directory and Annual General Meeting
  • Zones exchange their newsletters
  • Clubs/Zones distribute posters, registration forms, etc. to inform of upcoming events
  • Clubs announce at their dances and upcoming events
  • Clubs demo and provide entertainment at malls, schools, senior centers, etc.

3.3 Strategic Outcome: To increase and/or maintain awareness of National programs 

Activities/Tasks: 

  • Improved Website Design (links to national programs)
  • National event information on website
  • Dissemination (e-mails, newsletters, word of mouth, etc.)
  • Encourage local advertising at clubs
  • National rep reporting back to executive 

Indicators/Measurements: 

  • Number of provincial participants in National programs
  • Hits on website pertaining to national programs
  • Information in zone newsletters/Facebook

Responsibility: 

  • Zone reps or the Board of Directors communicate the information back to their zones and clubs
